Oconee Point COE Campground & Scheduling Service–Monday–July 16, 2012

Yesterday afternoon we arrived at Oconee Point Campground, a Corps of Engineer Campground, in Seneca, South Carolina.

Crossing Lake Hartwell on our way to Oconee Point CG

When we got to the campground, we were told that our reserved site (23) was still occupied.  The camp host gave us a list of all sites that were available, including our reserved site 23, and told us to go have a look.  We are glad we did!!  We picked another site, #25, and in our opinion it is one of the best in the campground.

Somehow, we lucked out again:o))

We set up the screen-house for the first time in a few weeks.  The weather has finally improved a bit and we actually sat outside last night enjoying the fantastic view.

Today, I scheduled maintenance appointments.

The Tahoe needs tires, alignment, brakes and an oil change.  Since we are staying here for 10 days, I arranged to have it all done on Wednesday in Wahalla, SC.

That way the Tahoe will be set to travel to PA in September!!

I also set up a service appointment for Baby at Lazydays.

We have 3 different issues that need attention: 1) warranty issues, 2) Baby’s Boo Boo issue, and 3) things we just want changed.  We hope to get most of it done in October.  Our plan is to arrive at Lazydays on October 1st.  That will give them 2-3 weeks to get everything completed.  We have our fingers crossed.  After all we want Baby to be at her best when she meets all the Carolina Clan in November;o))

This afternoon, we took a driving tour of
Hartwell Lake and Dam.

Hartwell Lake is a man-made lake bordering Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca Rivers. The lake is created by Hartwell Dam located on the Savannah River seven miles below the point at which the Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers join to form the Savannah. Extending 49 miles up the Tugaloo and 45 miles up the Seneca at normal pool elevation, Hartwell Lake comprises nearly 56,000 acres of water with a shoreline of 962 miles.  This information is from the COE website.  Click on the link to learn more about this area.

Hartwell Dam is very much like J. Strom Thurmond Dam at Clarks Hill, except you cannot drive across it.

It was just too hot to spend much time out there.

I think we will spend most of the next 10 days relaxing at our wonderful site.  We will probably get the Sea Eagle out and put some miles on our bikes.  Let’s just hope the weather cooperates!!!

  2. Think of all the fun you can have when the weather cools down a bit. It sure has been a hot summer.

Hope Lazy Days can get Baby back in shape with no delays. We're looking forward to meeting her.

  3. You should come on down now. They are not very busy. It is a little hot. But then, it's hot everywhere.

  4. Nice campsite!! PA in September? :-) FL in October? :-) Sounds like we will get to see you sooner than the CC2 gathering...perhaps Cedar Key or somewhere in FL? We will be there September to the end of October.

  5. You sure do find the nicest places :) Will have to add this post to our list.

Maybe you should go to Florida now. I hear it's cooler than the midwest! :)

  6. Are you guys going to a few days in every State Park and COE campground in S.C? I think there's a book in it if you do. What a totally fabulous campsite and it isn't even the 13th.

Gail's right. It was a high of 83 here in Tampa today and a high of 97 in Charlottesville Virginia. Come on down! Probably should mention that it RAINS every single day and not just sprinkles.
