Travel Day to Falls Lake–Tuesday–August 7, 2012

We packed up in between the rain drops and left The Uwharrie Forest shortly after breakfast.  We didn’t walk this morning as it’s been raining since 6PM last night.  We lost power about 7PM for a couple hours…thank goodness for generators!!!

The drive of 125 miles was uneventful although we did miss the turn into Rolling View CG the first time.  We also had a little trouble getting set us as our front jacks would not come down initially.  I think it was because we were so out of level (high in the back and low in the front) that they couldn’t even come down a few inches.  We moved the motorhome a bit and BINGO – the jacks worked!!

We came to Rolling View CG at Falls Lake Recreation Area to see Julie, Steve and our 4 grandchildren.  This campground is just north of Raleigh where they live.  Julie and Steve have bought a used 31’ Class C Motorhome and this will be their maiden voyage.  They asked us to meet them here.  So we have reserved the same site we had with the boys and the adjoining site.  I call our site “The Rock” as it has a wonderful large rock behind our site down by the lake. It is a great place to enjoy the lake!

We are excited to see them.  Hopefully, we can somewhat mentor them with how things work in their RV.  I believe they bought a 2004 31’ Coachmen Santara, but we will know for sure tomorrow!!  Nancy and I think it’s pretty cool that the six of them want to try camping:o)))

Before they come tomorrow, we are going to their house to do laundry.  I love the role reversal…mom and dad come home to do laundry;o)  Steve is working half a day and then they will join us at the lake!!  If you don’t hear from us for a few days, it’s because we are having fun with the kids.

Let the Fun Begin!!!

  3. And so the family tradition continues. RVing is one of the best family activities there is. I'm sure there will be quite a few differences between rigs, but it will help out to have y'all there.

  7. What fun for everyone. You two were clearly an inspiration and now the whole family is going to have a great time. Congratulations. Memory making at its best.

Tell Julie thanks so much for her comments. They were wonderful. I think she, Steve and the grandkids are going to love having their own home on wheels to get out into the natural world more often. It really is so much easier than tenting.
