Weekend with the Grandchildren (Part One) - Raleigh, NC - Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6, 2010

Part One: Friday

Nancy and I had made arrangements to visit with Julie, Steve and our grandchildren for the weekend.  Since my birthday was Thursday (11/11), we combined the visit with a little birthday celebration on Friday evening.

We left home about 10:30 am Friday.  Nancy had packed some  "Adult"  Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches and a couple of apples for our lunch on the road.  We both prefer to stop and enjoy "our" lunch at a rest area versus eating at a restaurant.  That's exactly what we did!!

We arrived at the kids house about 2:30pm.

Emily was very busy doing arts and crafts....cutting paper into little bitty pieces!!

Andrew and Daniel had finished home school and were practicing their piano lessons.  They have just started taking lessons, but are doing very well at it.

Samantha was just being Samantha....TOOOO CUTE!!

Steve was still at work and the weather was too nice to waste it indoors. Nancy and Julie took Samantha and Emily to one of the parks in their neighborhood.  I wanted to take Andrew and Daniel for their first adventure of geocaching.  The boys were excited to go and possibly find "treasures."  I had preloaded some caches into my handheld GPS that were relatively close to their house.  However, they were too far to walk so we took my car.  As we arrived at our first geocache site, the boys and I jumped out of the car in anticipation of finding their first cache.  As I shut the car door, I saw the keys dangling in the ignition.  TOO LATE!! I had just locked my car with the keys in it.  As I explained the situation to them, Daniel, in his usual candid way, said "that's great..."  With their heads hanging down and disappointment showing in their faces, they spent their first geocaching experience sitting on the side of the road with grandpop waiting for the locksmith to come open the car :o(  Not the fun time we had hoped for, but a real learning experience.  I'm am sure they will not let me live this down for a long, long, long.....time!!

Nancy and Julie made out a lot better heading to the park.

All the way to the TOP!!

It was a beautiful day to be outside and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.  When the ladies got home, they put together my favorite dinner...creamed dried beef on biscuits, home fries, and peas!!  Nothing but the best for my birthday dinner...  Of course, the dinner ended with my birthday celebration....coffee cake and ice cream.  The girls were responsible for putting all the candles on the cake and then after singing Happy Birthday, I had lots of help to blow those candles out!!
Happy Birthday Grandpop!!

It doesn't get much better than this....

Oh, maybe a little better.......
