SMOOTHIES - Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Nancy here.....

We try real hard to eat well by getting lots of fruits and vegetables.  One way we do this is with our morning smoothies.  They are real easy to fix if you have a Vitamix.  That is the one appliance I will not be without.  It even goes with us when we travel/camp in the Van.

As Bill mentioned, there are two versions...The Orange and The Purple.  They actually could be any combination of fruits and vegetables, but these are the two we have the most often.

The Orange Smoothie
Fruits & Vegetables:  Banana, Carrots, Pineapple, Figs, Mango, Strawberries
Sweetener:  Stevia or any sweetener of your choice
Other Ingredients:  2 Tbls. of ground flax seed and 2 Tbls. of nutritional yeast

Put all of this into the Vitamix

Add Orange or Pineapple Juice to cover about half the fruit mixture.

Process for about 30 seconds on high.

Pour into cup or container and ENJOY!!

The Purple Smoothie
The process is exactly the same for The Purple Smoothie, just the fruits, vegetables and juice are different.
Fruits and Vegetables: Grapes, Cranberries, Blueberries, Figs, Strawberries and SPINACH!!
Yes, the green cubes at the top of the plate are frozen spinach. I do use fresh spinach also. You'll never know it is in the drink.... I PROMISE!!

Sweetener:  Stevia or your choice
Other: 2 tbls. ground flax seed and 2 tbls. nutritional yeast.
Juice:  Apple or White Grape
Process just like The Orange Smoothie and you will have.....

THE PURPLE SMOOTHIE

OK, so now you know what gets us going.  Easy way to get those fruits and veggies!! Hey, it tastes great too!!

Bill here...
Just read Nancy's blog.  I had no idea I was eating FIGS, MANGOS, SPINACH, YEAST, SEEDS or whatever else she seems to put in these things.  Perhaps I was better off not knowing.  But, they still taste good!

  2. Glad you put this out there. I knew I wasn't the only one who wanted to know. The pictures are GREAT. You do such a nice job with this blog. I love reading it. What's in the little bottle above the flax and yeast??

  3. The little bottle is liquid stevia, a natural zero calorie sweetner. You just use as many drops as your taste requires. You can also get powdered stevia or grow your own like someone I know!! :)
