Today was our last day at Hunting Island State Park. However, it was Sherry and David's first day. So our paths crossed. It was so good to see them and really catch up on what is going on in their life. The last time we saw them in March, David was preparing to have a stem cell transplant. While we know it has been a very difficult year for the whole family, they all look fantastic. David says he feels great and he looks wonderful!! We also got to meet Carrie, their daughter. She flew down to enjoy Thanksgiving with them. I really think she was here for David's great pie;o)))
After spending most of the morning just catching up,
we headed out to explore Hunting Island State Park.
First stop the Fishing Pier
Looking towards the Ocean and Lagoon.
We spotted a PDSW swimming towards the lagoon!!
What is a PDSW??
Since we didn't know whether it was a Porpoise or Dolphin,
Carrie coined the term
PDSW (Porpoise, Dolphin, Small Whale)
to cover all possibilities;o))
From the fishing pier we headed out toward the ocean.
First we crossed the Lagoon Bridge.
We were hoping to see the PDSW
which had headed this way.
But, that didn't happen;o((
Instead we saw an Eagle flying across the lagoon!!
It perched in the tree just down the path.
We had the best time watching this eagle.
He could care less that we were there.
Of course, we got lots of photos!!
Finally, we moved on down the path toward the ocean.
It was high tide, so we could not walk the beach.
Mother Nature has reclaimed much of the beach.
Trees and Beach Cabins have been returned to the ocean.
David, Carrie, Sherry
After exploring what Mother Nature had done,
we headed back.
Checking to see if the Eagle was still there....
SURPRISE...
There's a pair!!!
What a great surprise!!
Then as we crossed the Lagoon Bridge,
we saw the PDSW;o))
Unfortunately,
it looks like it has an injured Dorsal Fin:o((
One more treat before heading to the cars...
a Belted Kingfisher!!!
It was already getting late in the afternoon...
times flies when you are enjoying the great outdoors!!
We had two more places to check out.
First, the Salt Marsh Boardwalk.
Last but not least...
Hunting Island Lighthouse!!
Unfortunately, the lighthouse is closed...again;o((
I think it is a Sherry thing.
This is her 3rd trip to Hunting Island and
the lighthouse has been closed each time!
However, the beach is open ;o))
Thanks for a great day and ENJOY!!!
Great photos! Can't wait to come back to beautiful HBSP. A whole year away! And we know that year will fly by, too. Have some more fun and adventures for us to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWow Nancy. I may not even post about this day. You just did a great job and your pictures put mine to shame. What fun it is to spend time with you two. Hope our paths cross again soon.
ReplyDeleteOur family is becoming quite the acronym inventors with PDD and now PDSW. :-))

ReplyDeleteOh how great it is to get together with good friends! We saw a pair of Bald Eagles in a tree here in Rainbow Springs SP FL. They were getting ready for Spring already.

So great that you were able to meet up with Sherry, David and Carrie! They looked great and you sure showed them a great time.
ReplyDeleteOf course they closed the lighthouse when Sherry visits. They know she'd spend so much time running up and down the stairs, she'd wear them out! ;c)
It is a dolphin. Porpoises are chubbier and do not live along the SC Coast.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a beautiful day. So nice you got to catch up with Sherry and David.
Happy Thanksgiving!
